NATURAL, TIMELESS PHOTOGRAPHY
Jennifer Gillam Photography was created in 2010 when I studied for a year to be a wedding and portrait photographer. I’m now a full time professional photographer and specialise in equine and baby photography. Wedding photography taught me so much – they definitely throw everything at you! A wedding photographer needs to be completely calm, capable, organised and ready for just about anything. I loved each and every wedding I photographed but I soon realised that I drawn to more individual and personal photography.
WHY EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY
Luckily I grew up with horses and, although I don’t own a horse at the moment, I still love being around them. Learning to master equine photography has brought them back in to my life. This is something I am so very grateful for! Equine Photography is the most amazing job and I love each and every commission I undertake. When I photograph horses it never feels like work to me!
When you choose your equine photographer be very careful – it’s a really important decision. An equine photography shoot is an investment. The photographs we create will hang on your client’s walls for many years to come. They will hopefully hang on your children’s wall as well, long after you’re gone! For that very reason you need to make sure of a few things. Most importantly your photographer needs to understand horses. Being a great photographer isn’t enough. Simply loving horses isn’t enough either. A successful equine photographer will be able to combine a sound knowledge of horses with strong and confident photography skills.
WHY BABY PHOTOGRAPHY
Whilst I was a wedding photographer I started to photograph families and babies. It wasn’t long before I realised that babies were something of a calling for me! I adore creating and sharing precious photographs with families at such a magical time in their loves. Eventually I took the plunge and built a really beautiful, purpose built studio in the grounds of my house.
After the first Covid-19 lockdown eased I realised that I needed to do things differently. And for two very different reasons. The backlog of babies I had booked in meant that I needed to be able to photograph older babies too. I also needed to be able to photograph babies in a much more hands-off and ‘socailly distanced’ way. I’d always been drawn to the simpler, pure white baby photography but it was a big step away from what I had been doing. So, I built a brand new, pure white area in my studio and now offer a style of baby photography I adore!
